3. DSU's new letterheads and logo should be now be being introduced. Providing the logo is well used, DSU's image should be improved, and DSU will hopefully gain more recognition for what it doesm by leaving its signature on all of its work. The high cost of the work is justified by its professionalism and quality: vastly superior to that of other design companies investigated.

2) New DSU Logo: A professional image is vital, because we have to compete in the real world. The basis for the new logo stems from the development plan agreed by Council a year ago. Originally the Sabbaticals for ideas from several companies, but they were not considered adequate. Eventually we settled on one company. We decided that it was worth paying for quality, because quality lasts. The price is still in dispute. Some of the type of stationary are having to be reprinted, but at no cost to us.
? - What is the idea behind the logo. My first impression was of Dunelm House sliding downhill.
A - I see it more as a ray of light.
? - Since there are many talented students in Durham, could we not have had some form of competition to design the logo?
A - No. We needed a high quality logo, since we need to invest in the future. We want the stamp of professionalism.
? - Nevertheless, it is a lot of money to spend on a logo. What sort of reactions have you had?
A - A logo is not just a work of art, to be hung on the wall and admired. It is there to be used. DSU means different things to different people.
