Resignation from Steering

I resign; to take effect from 6th February, successor to be elected at Council the following day. O.K.?

Sorry about this but I am pleading academic commitments and anyway this will enable some new hack to take over the job.

Clearly the term was in use well before then in some way, and it seems that it had similarities to at least some of its current meanings.
