Election of delegates

DSU Notes

  1. The DSU policy file
  2. The procedure for election of delegates to NUS Conference.
  3. DSU's campaign to improve its image among Durham students
  4. The actions during the meeting of DSU Council on 4th May 1988 which may not help the aim in Notes 3
  5. Standing Orders 13.3.1 and 13.3.4
  6. Policy passed in May 1987 on the Single Transferable Vote system

DSU Believes

  1. That a significant proportion of Durham students disagree with at least one section of DSU policy.
  2. That delegation lines do not permit proportional representation.

DSU Mandates

Steering Committee, in conjunction with any interested parties, to consider ways to change standing orders for the conduct of delegations in such a way as to permit proportional mandation. These standing orders should be submitted for adoption at a time sufficiently separated from the date of the next election for delegates to NUS conference so that they will be used in that election, if passed.

N4: Interesting...in summary, at that Council... the Campaigns Officer as a conference delegate voted against policy. Council censured him for it. Council then narrowly passed (32:24) a motion supporting a DSU policy. The CO then resigned before this meeting with a very pointy letter criticising Council and the exec. It was a bit messy, yes...

N6: I believe this was to support ERS and STV but I can't find the record now.

Carried after (moderately nasty) debate 30:15

Hmm, how history repeats itself.
