DSU Believes
- That the No Platform for Racists and Fascists policy has become a millstone round the necks of the student movement.
- That No Platform has been used to limit freemdom of speech on campuses.
- That the denial of the right to speak to Tory MPs has brought student Unions into disrepute.
- That events at Sunderland Polytechnic clearly demonstrate how No Platform can be used against the interests of ethnic minorities.
- That the case at York University demonstrates the legal and financial dangers of operating a No Platform policy.
- That preventing the Tory right from speaking plays into the hands of FCS provocateurs, giving them the publicity and credibility they seek.
- That Sir Keith Joseph's and the Tory Party's concern for free speech cannot be taken seriously when taken in the context of their attempted banning of the BBC's "Real Lives" programme and the denial of the right of free association at GCHQ.
DSU Further Believes
- That racism must be combatted and that any speaker who initiates racial hatred should be proseecuted under the Race Relations act.
- That DSU should operate a policy of free speech within the law.
DSU Resolves
- To continue its campaiging work against racism and fascism.
- To promote the use of free speech at all levels and oppose the policy of No Platform.
