DSU Credibility

DSU Notes

  1. That it is rather lacking in credibility among its members.

DSU Believes

  1. That its primary function is to serve its members to protect and develop their interests.
  2. That it should be seen to fulfil this role.

DSU Resolves

  1. To ensure that student issues in general and DSU matters in particular are given priority in meetings of the Union and that national and international issues should be discussed in order of their relevance to the members.
  2. To allow Steering Committee discretion within these broad outlines (after all we can censure them or whatever if they are naughty!).
  3. To amend Standing Orders accordingly.

DSU Further Notes

  1. That the proposer of this motion would dearly love to be censured because it would increase his own credibility among DSU members.

DSU Censures

  1. The proposer, whether it's constitutional or not. I'm sure nobody will mind!

It was passed (apart from the last two parts) 24:13. There were issues raised about whether it was fair to Steering Committee to make them order the agenda, which nowadays seems strange as they have this power de facto anyway...

Making them order the agenda to specific lines, however, does seem a bit unusual - it seems to be another manifestation of the old argument...

"It's relevant to those students there, the ones who've turned up for it.")
