DSU Notes

  1. The report entitled "Academic Affairs and DSU - The case for Establishing the Academic Affairs Senate"
  2. The minutes of the inaugural Conference of Departmental Reps, held onFebruary 9th 1979.
  3. The lack of concrete achievement in the area of academic affairs by DSU
  4. That DSU is a college-based body
  5. That DSU Council formulates all policy on academic affairs, without the regular consultation of departmental reps.

DSU Believes

  1. That Academic Affairs must play a central part in the work of any Students Union.
  2. That DSU's work in academic affairs should involve the present system of departmental reps and enhance their position within departments, rather than supercede it.
  3. That DSU Council, because it is college-based, does not provide an appropriate forum for the discussion of academic affairs.
  4. That it must provide a regular forum in which departmental reps can meet to discuss some common problem.
  5. That departmental reps have the right to take part in policy decision in academic affairs within DSU
  6. That elected departmental reps should be the only justifiable representatives of students in academic affairs
  7. That DSU Council is the sovereign body of the Union responsible for the central representation of students.
  8. That the departmental reps already fulfill a policy making role within their departments
  9. That DSU Council's role should be one of support and encouragement to the Academic Affairs Senate and the reps individually

N4 I would guess from other parts of the motion meant DSU Council

R4.1.d - They're trying to turn University Senate into a DSU Newsletter! No, hold on....

R5 - didn't they just delete this in R3? Be interesting if they didn't get implemented in the order in the motion...

I1 - I'm assuming a typo. If not, I like the idea...
